EXTRACOOP

Extracoop is a new format for Italy’s largest co-operative supermarket group. At Buro Loods we worked with and for the Interstore design studio to develop this big scale project, which was built simultaneously in 3 locations in the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. My role included working on store layouts, block plans, mood boards, focus on designing food courts, IT, beauty-pharmacy and bank areas.

CENTER OF THE CENTER

The brief asked to design a modern supermarket with a high level of flexibility that puts the focus on merchandise. The concept of the project was to create small food islands/centers within the store.

03

MOOD

The food areas are modern, locally tradition-inspired designs. The nonfood areas have more clear lines, use color-blocking and contemporary design.

Eye-catching wooden ceiling elements and high black metal frames around individual departments, provide a visual structure for the large 12000 sq.m sales area that put the focus on each of the product categories.

LAYOUT

12 000 sq.m

The central fresh-food area is the heart of the market, surrounded by non-food departments, each with its own look and character. This has been designed to make shoppers feel as if they are in a small specialty store and not in a large footprint hypermarket. Through the circular loop arrangement and the positioning of the departments, shoppers are always in contact with all the assortments and do not need to cover long distances up and down aisles.

Restaurant. Bar. Pizzeria. Pasticceria. Gelateria

The food court is located on the right side of the checkouts and the left side of one of the entrances. I worked closely on this area that involved different food venues. The design of each venue had to be diverse in its materials but also balanced in style with each other.

05

BUONA PAUSA

A self-service restaurant as well as a food court dining area. The high metal structure frames and emphasizes the area. Different type of  Pedrali seating creates dynamics and playfulness. A combination of metals, wood, and red tones has its own character but also enhances the general look&feel of Extracoop.
